1. Are gay jokes
Only use these terms if someone self-describes in this way, and enclose in quotation marks to indicate this. Emily St. James, Vox [4]. Associates gay men with misogynistic ideas of femininity; implies weakness, unthreateneaning appearance, cowardliness. Offensive, often used as an intentional slur. There are many variations of this term used for queer people across the 20th century and across different regions, inlcuding bowl of fruit, fruitcake, fruit-eater, fruitloop, and fruit-picker.
More often used as a now widely recognised term of affection between gay men, though more likely as a friendly term than as a romantic one.
