Caitlyn Kiramman is a lesbian character from Arcane: League of Legends. Caitlyn was born into the Kiramman Clan, one of the wealthiest noble families in the city of Piltover. Missed opportunity. Ever since Caitlyn and Vi met on the opposite sides of a prison cell in the first season, fans have gravitated towards them as two strong, queer characters who were destined to be together.

But like any love worth fighting for, studio Fortiche didn’t want to make this journey an easy one. Caitlyn is an upper-class woman, skilled as an investigator and a sharpshooter, so her slimmer appearance makes perfect sense. Notably, too, these traits are never commented on in a world written to have no societal norms for body types or gender expression. There's long been speculation about the relationship between Vi and Caitlyn, even in the original League of Legends game that inspired Arcane ; Vi's nickname for Caitlyn, " Cupcake, " is often taken as evidence of a romance.

Riot's Arcane Netflix TV show seemed to be doubling down on this, with strong hints of intimacy between the two. Shippers for this romance have called it "CaitVi," and they will no doubt be delighted to see the two share an on-screen kiss. This may not actually be the first time Vi and Caitlyn have kissed, though, for all it was passionate; Vi stayed over at Caitlyn's house in season 1, and the creative team have confirmed they deliberately avoided showing whether they were intimate, leaving it to viewers' imagination.

Now, though, there's clarity. Unfortunately, although Yee hinted viewers would be happy with the romance, it doesn't look as though things will be smooth sailing. The problem, though, is that Caitlyn and Vi seem to be on very different paths.

Vi is desperate for her love not to change, but the sad truth is that Caitlyn's grief after her mother's death has already changed her ; she is harsher, more brutal and vindictive, and willing to accept collateral damage as she and Vi hunt Jinx. That willingness to sacrifice others proves too much for Vi, and the two part ways - only for Caitlyn to subsequently be appointed to the ultimate position of power in Piltover.

After the bombshell announcement that season 2 will be the final outing for Arcane, a number of things must happen before the show concludes. Arcane season 2 feels like something of a tragic love story so far, but that doesn't mean it will end with sorrow. It's reasonable to assume the love between Caitlyn and Vi will become one of the central plots, with Vi attempting to draw Caitlyn back from the abyss of grief she has stared too deeply into.

The story has taken a dark twist, but Arcane season 2, acts 2 and 3 could yet see their love redeemed. Arcane is an animated series set in the League of Legends universe, debuting in It explores the conflict between the affluent city of Piltover and the oppressed undercity of Zaun.
